Because she was an everyday civilian living under British occupation on Long Island—and operating in absolute secrecy as part of the Culper Spy Ring—there was no reason or opportunity for a portrait to be made. For centuries, the public didn't even know the true identities of Washington's spies, as their letters and records weren't fully decoded and matched to real names until 1929.
